SEO Glossary: My Favorite Terminologies and Keyphrases in SEO
July 16, 2009Since jessie james’ blog is starting from scratch, I think I will first list my favorite terminologies and search terms in SEO. These would also help beginners to increase their knowledge in this field and for them to know what I mean when I say things like SEO, SEM, SERP, etc…
SEO = Search Engine Optimization
The process of bringing your site/blog in the search engine results pages. The higher the ranking, the more visibility to potential visitors.
SERP’s = the search engine results pages
It is also called the Google page results. SERP is present to you when you search for a search term in the search box.
Keyword = any term or phrase that you are searching for or others are searching for in the search box.
If you have a blog about “Music” then “Music” will be your main keyword. In order to get tons of traffic, you nee to rank high on that keyword and to other related search terms.
Long Tail Keywords = any keywords related to your main keyword.
“New Music” can be a long tail for your “Music” blog or it could be a main keyword for a “New Music” blog. “Best New Music” would be a long tail for either blog.
PR = page rank.
This is a certification of a web/blog page. It indicates the effort gave on building links. It is also a designation used only by the big G to assign a value of trust to your pages.These days it gives a little weigh in search engine rankings. But a high PR site/blog can impress people like advertisers or people looking to exchanging links.
Backlinks = a link pointing to your blog from another site/blog.
This serves as a vote to search engines. The more backlinks you have the better.
Ill be sharing to you more terms as they come up, you can also leave a comment if you need help in any of the terms above . So you better stay tuned! That’s all for now.. Wooot!
