Should we write website content for humans or for search engines?

October 9, 2009

Search Engine Optimization or also known as SEO is now something that many webmasters, developers, bloggers are now obsessing over. There are tons of website/ blog owners spending countless time tweaking their own sites, building links, creating quality content to achieve high ranking on different search engines. According to statistics, there are over 90% of web surfers use search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing to visit websites on a regular basis, but does it mean that web masters should build and tweak sites for SEO, or for humans as their visitors?

 The answer is simple, when we build website, we do not create it for the benefit of search engine crawlers instead we target people who will read and visit that site. Hence, as webmasters, we should build a website for human beings and definitely not for search engines only. The whole purpose of creating a web site is so that you can get traffic. Without human visitors,a website is next to useless. No matter how many valuable features and how functional your site is, without people looking for it, your design and functionality becomes worthless.Although SE can deliver traffic, web sites that are designed for search engines, are often not designed for human visitors and all the traffic that your web site gets will be worthless. Trust is also important to obtain from your visitors.If youachieve great trust from your human visitors, they will keep coming back on your site. Return visit plays a vital role for the success of any web site.

Hence, when creating articles for web site, it should be built for human visitors. If you have articles that are too keyword dense, the quality of the writing will not be as high as it should, and quite frankly, many of your visitors will be annoyed if you keep using words such as “mesothelioma” or “loans” to get your web site high in the search rankings for these terms. They will leave your web site and most likely not return. If you create a web site where content is valuable for people to read and is well written, chances are you will increase return visits percentage who like the quality of your posts and come back frequently to read any new content you may have added. The more people that subscribe and link to your web site, the more popular it well become and naturally, it will be ranked higher in search engines.

To add up, instead of wasting tons of time for building irrelevant links for your site, I suggest to better spent it for adding features which would prompt more people to stay in your site for a longer time, in that way, it would help your site to achieve good bounce rate percentage.

In conclusion, I believe we should write for people because we want people to be interested in our content. If i write for search engine crawlers only I’ll rank fine and people will easily find my site. Though, they’ll leave it as soon as possible when they see inappropriate content. So I prefer having less people on my site but these people will be satisfied with the design they see, services they can get and articles they can read.

Using Twitter Account Creation For Business

August 17, 2009

Twitter is amazing for your business! It is a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with friends on the site, your name and business contacts. No matter what your niche business is,there’s always a strategy for you to use Twitter to generate traffic and conversion.

The first thing you have to realize about Twitter is that it’s not a spam-friendly social netwroking site. You are not able to just post affiliate links and product offers all day long! Twitter is all about creating relationships and building the trust of your niche. Twitter became huge and quick-improving, thanks to celebrities like Oprah and Ashton Kutcher. They have gotten the mass market interested, not only in their country but all over the world. Twitter better than ever, since you’ll get far more sales/leads for your business than you have ever thought possible.

 First you need to do is to build an account.Immedeiate begin using Twitter Search to look for tweets, business name, competitor’s names, keywords or search terms that are related to you. Set up a Twitter profile. Create your personal username, add a photo that will represent your account, and insert information about your website like description and URL. Then, after building an account, next is to gain followers, if they will follow you back, they will likely visit your twitter profile, read some tweets and possibly visit your website.

Then, next question is how to gain tons of followers on twitter in a very short period of time?One of the easiest and very quick method is to find a guru in your niche and to follow their followers. Most of the times, half number of those people will follow you back. Your business can easily get to know these people, and you know that they will be interested in your same niche since that is how you found them!

When you post tweets or talk about your stuff on twitter, make it useful or valuable. You can give advice, blog posts, pictures, videos etc. Share the human side of your company. If you’re spending some time to tweet, that simply means you believe social media has an effect for human connections.I also want you to keep in mind that many people are on Twitter to network with friends, relatives, collegues, and are not expecting sales messages or product endorsements. That’s why you’ll want to casually mention your business, or link to an article of interest on your site.

Once you get tons of followers into your profile, other businesses will probably really pick up for you.  It would be easy for you to drive traffic and even sales with a small simple Twitter message. Nothing could be easier!

SEO Glossary: My Favorite Terminologies and Keyphrases in SEO

July 16, 2009

Since jessie james’ blog is starting from scratch, I think I will first list my favorite terminologies and search terms in SEO. These would also help beginners to increase their knowledge in this field and for them to know what I mean when I say things like SEO, SEM, SERP, etc…

SEO = Search Engine Optimization

The process of bringing your site/blog in the search engine results pages. The higher the ranking, the more visibility to potential visitors.

SERP’s = the search engine results pages

It is also called the Google page results. SERP is present to you when you search for a search term in the search box.

Keyword = any term or phrase that you are searching for or others are searching for in the search box.

If you have a blog about “Music” then “Music” will be your main keyword. In order to get tons of traffic, you nee to rank high on that keyword and to other related search terms.

Long Tail Keywords = any keywords related to your main keyword.

“New Music” can be a long tail for your “Music” blog or it could be a main keyword for a “New Music” blog. “Best New Music” would be a long tail for either blog.

PR = page rank.

This is a certification of a web/blog page. It indicates the effort gave on building links. It is also a designation used only by the big G to assign a value of trust to your pages.These days it gives a little weigh in search engine rankings. But a high PR site/blog can impress people like advertisers or people looking to exchanging links.

Backlinks = a link pointing to your blog from another site/blog.

This serves as a vote to search engines. The more backlinks you have the better.

Ill be sharing to you more terms as they come up, you can also leave a comment if you need help in any of the terms above . So you better stay tuned! That’s all for now.. Wooot!
